The second wave of the P3 paints are set to be on our local shelves come April 24th. With this comes the complete line at our finger tips and a well rounded assortment of colors. You'll find several new greens and blues to play with, metalics to complete our choices, and the introduction of washes and inks.
Time to complete a line...Wave 2 Acyrlics:Skorne red base Base— This red is a slightly neutral and deeper version of a traditional red, very similar to a brick red. You can shade it with Sanguine base or a deep brown color, or highlight it with a yellow/orange color, or a warm light brown hue just as easily Ember orange—This is a bridge between Khador red base and Sulphuric Yellow, as this is a much more pigment intense color and may no go with the Khador red highlight or Heartfire as well. It could even be used with more primary browns if the need arises. Sulphuric Yellow—This is a slightly more neutral yellow than Cynus yellow and should be treated as such. I will work with colors like Menoth white base, or Ember orange easily, and you'll find its coverage better than Cygnus yellow as well. Gnarls green—This is the deepest of the new greens, fairly primary and leans a little to the blue side of things. It works well two of the new greens Iosan and Wurm green. If you want to deepen this color a bit more, try a touch of Sanguine base. Iosan green—The middle of our new green trio, Iosan green can be highlighted all the way up to any of several yellows or even Menoth white base. Ordic Olive—This is one more neutral green to add to our arsenal where we found several in the first wave. It can be darkened with Traitor green, or even add a touch of Exile blue or Sanguine base for a nice dramatic hit. Since it is a touch more neutral, highlight this green up with colors like Moldy Ochre or Thrall flesh even. Wurm green—The lightest of our new greens is just a touch more neutral that Necrotite green. But don't let that fool you to much, as this is still a very primary color. As such, it can be highlighted with Necrotite green, Sulphuric yellow or Menoth white base. Deepening this color can be a touch tricky because of how bright it is, but Iosan green, or a similar tone will pull of a nice subtle shift. Umbral Umber—This has quickly grown to be a well used color for me. One of the deepest browns, but leaning to the cool side of things, when compared to Battle field brown, it can be used for shading a lot of mid to darker browns. Though very dark, a touch of Coal black can be used to deepen it up even further. Most mid browns work well, but Bootstrap leather seams to flow very well with it. Bloodtracker Brown—A great mid brown that leans a bit to the orange side of things, and because of, Moldy ocher helps it to pop nice. Umbral umber helps to round out the deeper end of things. Frostbite—A great off white color that leans very cool as its name suggests. Its still somewhat neutral and can even work with cool grey tones like Greatcoat grey. Coal black—This is a strong addition to any palette, as its an obvious deep tone for a lot of darker blues, and doubles as a highlight to Thamar black. One of my quick try outs with this color, was to pair it up with Trollblood base, and I wasn't disappointed. One thing to remember with this color though, its a very deep teal/turquoise color, so and colors you use it with, should also be on the cool side of the spectrum. Trollblood base—One color that will make many a Trollblood player happy as this color has impressive coverage with its slate blue hue. Trollblood does have a highlight color, but I prefer to use Midlund flesh to lighten it up myself. I also found for a marine feel, try higlighting it with Thrall flesh as it works the turquoise aspect of this color nicely. Meredius blue—One of the few primary colors to hit the second wave, this very Turquoise color will make it onto many sculpt with its great coverage I'm sure. Because of the primary nature of this color, keep that theory with other colors used, like Cygnar blue base, Arcane blue and similar colors. Underbelly blue—Similar in value to Frostbite, Underbelly blue is much warmer, and leans more to a yellow hue. I can be used with Trollblood base for a highlighting color if your going for a more mechanical feel and not flesh tone of color. Beaten purple—A color many were looking for in the first wave, this very primary purple color should be used with other primary colors like Exile blue and Arcane blue. Murderous magenta—One of the final primary colors in the second wave, this color is a great complement to colors such as Sanguine Base and Carnal pink. Carnal pink—Don't let the name fool you to much, this primary color can lighten up many of the more red colors like Murderous magenta and can even lighten up Beaten purple with good effects. Careful with color like Khador red base, as you will get an overall pink look quickly. Irdrian flesh—One of several new flesh tones, this color can be used as a base for a deeper skin tone, or used as a wash for more mid to light flesh tones with great success. It does lean a touch to the red side of things, so treat it accordingly. Beast hide—This is another of the flesh tones that can be a touch tricky, as it is darker than most skin tones, it is very muted in value and as such, it may be better used as a base for a darker flesh and not a shade color. You almost want to treat this as a brown at times also, as Hammerfall Khaki and Jack bone will highlight it well. Ryn Flesh—A much needed addition, this color will highlight most flesh tones easily. Only in a few areas on a face will need to go any lighter than this color, and the addition of a little Menoth white highlight will cure those few areas. Mouldy Ochre—A great addition as this color is a touch lighter, and more primary than its Rucksack tan cousin. You'll find Bootstrap brown and Sulphuric yellow good companions with this color. Trollblood Highlight—While the name tells you one obvious use, I actually enjoy using this color as a highlight to Bastion grey just as much. Wave 2 Metalics:Cold steel—The middle of your now trio of silver tones. Quick silver—The brightest of your silver trio color. Radiant platinum—This is a color you won't find in your average palette, as this very unique color is somewhere between a mid silver and a bright gold color. Molten bronze—A very deep, bronze tone, this slightly red metal can be the deeper of your yellow trio of metals. Solid gold—This will be your obvious brightest of yellow metals. Only by adding a bit of Quick silver, can you highlight this color any more. Brass balls—While slightly more in the middle of the yellows, it is actually more neutral in tone when compared to Rhulic gold, and my best be highlighted with silvers, instead of any other gold tone.
Inks:While all of the following inks are pretty clearly named, keep in mind these are some very opaque inks and may take a little getting use to. The brown leans to the red, but can be adjusted with mixing when the need comes up, and the green does lean a little to the blue side of things. Red ink— Yellow ink— Blue ink— Green ink— Brown ink— Turquoise ink—
Washes: Something very unique to any paint line, these 2 washes are very specialized and are actually a combination of paint and ink so they flow a bit better on top of your base work. So make sure you shake them well before using either.
Flesh Wash— Metal wash— More take out?Now we all know bouncing back and forth from the computer while trying to paint can be a slight pain, and personally I like to have things written down, or printed out at my desk if there is something I'm referencing, so to help you out, here is a color chit listing PDF. Until next time... Dead Dogg
