Page 3 of 7 TrimAlternate cloth / accent trim = Vermin Brown. All of the secondary cloth pieces (tabards, loincloths, etc.) and trim on armor panels will be in this color.
In the case of this Devout there is no cloth to speak of. I debated hard on using this for the loin guard piece, but decided that the darker brown would grant better contrast between the light armor color at the top and what will be gold trim at the bottom. Like I said earlier, guidelines. The trim mixes that I use contain the following colors / mediums: - GW Vermin Brown
- GW Chestnut Ink
- GW Brown Ink
- GW Vomit Brown (P3 Rucksack Tan is close)
- VMC Glaze Medium (GM)
- VMC Matte Medium (MM)
- water (H2O)
Step 1: Base coat the entire area using this mix. Alternatively, P3 Bloodstone is a fairly good match to the color this ends up as. Step 1 color mix: 10:3:1:1:1 Vermin Brown : Chestnut Ink : Brown Ink : GM : H2O
Not much to show, as the area is pretty small. I decided the round rings on either side of the visor would look better in this color rather than the armor color. Step 2: Carefully wash this mix all over the trim areas. Make sure not to slop onto the armor. If you you, mop it up quickly with a second brush. Step 2 color mix: 4:2:4:4 Chestnut Ink : Brown Ink : MM : H2O Step 3: This is the first highlight color. Apply it to everything on the trim, leaving just a thin line of the wash showing. Step 3 color mix: 10:2:1:1 Vermin Brown : Chestnut Ink : GM : H2O Step 4: Since the shoulder trim is so small, I'll finish this up by showing the shield. I've been painting it along side the Devout all along. It's got a bit more surface to the trim. I should've just shown it to start with I suppose. :D Step 4 color mix: 10:1:2:2 Vermin Brown : Vomit Brown : GM : H2O I've applied this to the edges and pulled it into the center of the trim from each side. Keep in mind that the light direction will be coming from above once this is assembled. Step 5: Final edging color. Just hit the very edges with this. I usually just do the edges where overhead light would catch it on complex trims like this shield.
